Open Mic Nights
Every other Thursday, we host an informal open mic night at the Old Chocolate Bar in Mac. All BC students are eligible to play, and there is absolutely no talent requirement. Covers and original songs are both played, so whatever it is you want to play, come out and rock our world. Sign-ups occur through email distribution. If you're not getting these emails and you want to be, let us know!
If you're looking for laidback and collaborative music-making, Jammin' Toast is for you. Jammin' Toast meets every other Saturday to eat bagels, drink coffee, and break into groups to learn a song or two. At the end, each group performs their song for everyone present.
The Music Guild tries to host on-campus gigs for the talented bands on the Heights. Locations and timing for these showcases varies. If you are a BC student and part of a band, make sure we know. We'll help you find gigs, meet other musicians, and publicize your music.
Every Spring, the Music Guild and Arts Fest co-sponsor a singer-songwriter competition. BC musicians play original works, and advancing finalists compete in BC's Best at Arts Fest for a cash prize. Sign-ups for the singer-songwriter preliminaries go through the Arts Fest Council (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Battle of the Bands
The Battle of the Bands is another Spring contest we hold annually. Bands compete against each other for the chance to move onto BC's Best during Arts Fest. The Battle of the Bands winner at BC's Best earns the chance to be an opening act for Modstock. This year's winner, Lucid Soul, performed before Macklemore.
Socials, Workshops, and Networking
Our mission is to cultivate the music scene on the Heights, and to do so, we will be hosting informal get-togethers for BC's musicians. These could be barbecues, workshops on exposure or recording, or even going to concerts. We will announce these events as they are scheduled through our email.
